Most young people know a thing or two about battling the aliens, warlords and assorted bad guys that populate the virtual universe. But what of the real-life conflicts that inhabit their history books? Is war a game? That’s the big question Cycle Three teachers at two Riverside School Board elementary schools asked their classes.

It Takes a Dream to Feed a Village
When four students at Mecatina School started growing hydroponic lettuce and herbs as their entry in the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest, they joked with teacher Chris Wong about one day supplying the entire Lower North Shore with fresh produce. Just a few months later, they’ve shown how viable that idea could be.

Never too Early to Dream Big about Space … or Entrepreneurship
Martine Deziel and Yolanda Gálvez––both teachers at St. John Fisher Jr. Elementary in Pointe Claire––are passionate about robotics. They are also big proponents of team teaching. So much so that they have awakened a cooperative, entrepreneurial spirit among their Grade 2 and kindergarten students, that all started with a joint robotics project.
