In August 2017 the Deputy Minister, Mme Sylvie Barcelo, announced the compulsory implementation of the Academic and Career Guidance Content (ACGC) in the 2017-2018 school year for Elementary Cycle Three. As well, the content items for Elementary Cycle Three have been revised, based on the experiences of the piloting schools. From the 11 that were piloted, six content items and their Expected Student Learning Outcomes have been finalized. In addition, the timetable for secondary implementation was also announced: Secondary Cycle One ACGC will be implemented in 2018-2019; Cycle Two, in 2019-2020.
Every school board has a multidisciplinary resource team in place whose task is to support Elementary Cycle Three ACGC implementation within the school board. The schools that participated in the piloting in 2016-2017 have been asked to share their experiences with the other elementary schools in their boards. As well, the MEES has hired seven resource personnel to create ACGC materials, one of whom is mandated to work with the English school boards. Gisella Scalia has been hired as the English sector resource person.
The English school boards are working together to ensure the success of ACGC implementation, and the GOAL Network is the heart of this collaboration. Throughout the piloting period, network members and piloting teachers have worked together to match existing activities to the content items, as well as to create and share new ACGC activity and project ideas. Developing even more classroom-ready ACGC activities continues to be the priority this year. Contact your GOAL Network representative for more information.
